WELCOME TO TEXAS GARDEN CLUBS, INC.

"Green up" and "greening of the earth" are current catch phrases in our consciences.  Texas Garden Clubs, Inc. has been "green" for over eighty years.

The formation and federation of TGC, Inc. in 1928 began a long, rich history of service to Texas and beyond.  1932 saw the advent of the Highway Commission placing name signs on approaches to Texas streams and rivers - At the request of Texas Garden Clubs, Inc.    Sponsorship of food gardens in rural underprivileged areas began in 1939, followed by a request from the Office of Defense to help expand upon the provision of seeds and food growing assistance and education (Victory Gardens) - a request met heartily by the garden clubs under the umbrella of TGC, Inc.

As TGC, Inc. grew in member clubs, so did its influence in legislation - lending voice to the education of women in fields reserved in the '50's for men in landscape architecture - now available for degrees.  The 1970's and '80's included funding for landscape at the governor's mansion, tape collections for the blind, planting of hundreds of thousands of trees, energy awareness conferences; a period during which commenced our world gardening project of seed contributions.

Do Texas Garden Clubs plant and tend flower patches?  You bet we do!  We also plant trees, wild flowers along highways, and Blue Star Memorials.  Along the way, we implant education and inspiration for the preservation and improvement of our communities, our world.  We love "green".
